Because the immigration system is so complicated, and the particular situation that brought them here is so extraordinary, arriving Afghans will require legal services just to be able to live a stable and productive life in our community, without fear of being returned to a country where they would be unsafe. They will require representation to maintain lawful status in the United States, whether it’s by keeping work authorizations current or by filing applications for asylum, or lawful permanent residence.
